Why do forex traders use a VPS?
Forex traders use a VPS so that MetaTrader and its expert advisors keep trading when their own computer is off. An expert advisor (EA) is a trading robot that runs inside the MetaTrader terminal.
A forex VPS is a Windows server in a datacenter that keeps MetaTrader and its expert advisors running around the clock.
MetaQuotes, which makes MetaTrader, says robots, bought EAs and copied signals all need a constant connection to the trade server. They also need steady power. A home PC sleeps, restarts for updates and loses power; a VPS does not.
A VPS changes where the terminal runs, not spreads, fills or a strategy's results. Onyxpane sells hosting, promises no trading result and gives no trading advice.
London or New York: which location is best for forex?
Pick the city closest to your broker's trade server. MetaQuotes gives the same advice for its own hosting: choose the server nearest your broker to cut network delay.
Ask your broker where its trade servers are, then measure from a running server before you settle. Onyxpane publishes no latency figures, because it has not measured any broker.
According to Onyxpane's check of 30 October 2026, 24 of 39 Windows hosts sell servers in the United States and 17 in the United Kingdom. Onyxpane sells both New York and London, at one price. See what is the best UK Windows RDP and what is the best USA Windows RDP.
How much RAM does a MetaTrader setup need?
MetaQuotes publishes no RAM figure per terminal. Its MT4 help says hardware needs depend on the MQL4 programs running, the active symbols and the open charts.
Two official figures frame the choice:
Windows Server needs 2 GB of RAM with the desktop, and Microsoft recommends 4 GB for Windows Server 2025.
MetaQuotes' own virtual hosting allots up to 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of disk to each subscription.
So RDP 4 leaves 2 GB above Windows for one terminal. RDP 8 holds two terminals at the full 3 GB each. The per-plan reasoning is on what is the best Windows VPS for MT4 and MT5.
Which Onyxpane plan should a forex trader pick?
Pick RDP 4 for one terminal with expert advisors, and a larger plan for each extra account.

Is a forex-only VPS better than a general Windows VPS?
A forex-only VPS is narrower, not better. Shinjiru states that its Forex VPS servers are dedicated only to forex trading, with MT4 and MT5 pre-installed. Onyxpane's price comparison left such forex-only plans out for that reason.
A general Windows VPS runs MetaTrader too, plus any other legal Windows program: a second broker's terminal, a crypto bot, a browser for charts.
Read the fine print of forex plans. Zomro's forex servers come with a trial Windows license and Windows Update turned off by default. 1Gbits does not state whether its license is included. At Onyxpane: The Windows Server license is included in the price: no extra license fee.
How do I set up MetaTrader on a forex VPS?
Pick a plan and a city
Take RDP 4 for one terminal, in London or New York, whichever is closer to your broker's trade server.
Pay in crypto
Top up and order. A person creates the server once the payment is confirmed; the IP and password then show in your dashboard.
In every plan: Windows Server license · Full Administrator access · NVMe storage · Dedicated IPv4 · No logs · No KYC
Forex VPS: frequently asked questions
Is a normal Windows VPS as good as a forex VPS?
Yes, for running MetaTrader. A forex VPS is a Windows VPS sold for one use; a general one runs the same terminal and anything else legal. Check the license and the city before the label.
What is the cheapest RDP server for forex trading?
At Onyxpane, RDP 2 costs $6.74 and RDP 4 $9.75 per 30 days. Each is at least 25% below the cheapest comparable plan of 17 no-KYC crypto hosts (30 October 2026).
Can I run MT4 and MT5 on the same VPS?
Yes. Install each terminal in its own folder. Size the plan for both: RDP 8 holds two terminals at MetaQuotes' 3 GB hosting allotment each.
Can I pay for a forex VPS with crypto and no KYC?
Yes. Onyxpane takes BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, from a $25 top-up. No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents, no card, no phone number.
