Is Windows App the old Remote Desktop app for Android?

Yes. On 2 April 2025, Microsoft made Windows App generally available on Android and ChromeOS, and the Remote Desktop client updated to become Windows App. It keeps the same Google Play package, com.microsoft.rdc.androidx.

Windows App is Microsoft's own Remote Desktop client for Android, free on Google Play, and it reaches any Windows Server by its IP address. Microsoft also recommends it on Chromebooks bought after 2020.

What does the trust prompt control?

The trust prompt decides what your phone shares with the server. It lists local resources such as the microphone, camera, storage, location and clipboard, each with a toggle. Leave off what you do not need.

Tick Never ask again for connections to this PC only once your choices are right. Android may then ask whether Windows App may use the camera, microphone, location or files. Allow or deny each one; a denied permission cannot be shared with the server.

How do I use touch, a mouse and a keyboard?

Windows App has two mouse modes. In Direct touch, a tap is a click where your finger lands. In Mouse pointer, a pointer shows and follows your finger.

• Right-click: tap and hold with one finger, or tap with two fingers in Mouse pointer mode.
• Scroll: tap and hold with two fingers, then drag up or down.
• Zoom: pinch with two fingers.
• Keyboard: tap the keyboard icon in the connection bar to show the on-screen keyboard. A Bluetooth keyboard and mouse work too.

If characters come out wrong, open the settings pane from your profile icon, tap General, and change Use scancode input when available.

Can I copy text and files between my phone and the server?

Text, yes; files, through storage. The Android clipboard shared with the server carries text only.

To set it, tap and hold the PC on the Devices tab, then tap Edit. Under Device & audio redirection, turn Clipboard and Storage on or off, and pick where sound plays. Tap Save, then connect. Storage gives the server access to your phone's files, so turn it on only when you move files.

Why can't my phone connect to the server?

Most failures come from one of four causes.

• The server is not ready yet. A person creates your server after your payment is confirmed, so it is not instant; your dashboard shows the status, then the IP address and the Administrator password once the server is running.
• A reinstall is under way. The old password stops working, and a new one appears on the card once it is done.
• The address or password has a typo. Copy both from the dashboard card instead of typing them.
• Your network blocks port 3389. Some public Wi-Fi networks do; try mobile data.
